Alejandro Montecchia has announced his retirement from basketball at the age of 37. He calls it a career after more than 20 season playing in Argentina, Italy and Spain.

This point guard, born in Bahia Blanca was the point guard of the Argentinian National Team that achieved the 2nd place in the Indianapolis World Championships 2002. There Argentina shocked the world after defeating the USA team. But his greatest success was two years later, when Argentina won the Olympic Gold in Athens 2004.

In Spain he played for Pamesa were he won the Uleb Cup title. But one thing he regrets after retirement is not having played in the NBA. And he had the chance to do it when Gregg Popovich called him in 2004. He had then one remaining year of contract with Pamesa and couldn't fulfill his dream.
