Czech Republic 53 - Italy 98
The Czech Republic was no rival for Italy. They got a comfortable victory against New Zealand and everybody was expecting to see the Czechs competing against Italy or France.
But Ingrosso, Polonara, Gentile and the flashy Andrea de Nicolao gave their best to get an easy win. Only Ondrej Kohout displayed some talent, though it was not enough to compete against a better quality Squadra.
Achille Polonara was an absolute defensive wall, blocking shots, stopping penetrations and stealing balls. Despite scoring just 4 points, he was the best player of Italy against the Czech Republic.
Angola 56 - Germany 65
Angola fought hard to keep up on the scoreboard for lots of minutes, but the lack of centimeters of their centers gave advantage to Philipp Neumann and Danilo Barthel, who managed to reign in both keys, scoring with ease and grabbing 28 together.
Angola gave a better impression than against Russia and their players showed their strentgh and athleticism, but Germany was patient through the game to wait for their moment. Emanuel Antonio was leading the offense for his team with success during the first two quarters until the German players leaded by their frontcourt started to dominate the game.
Danilo Barthel came from a bad performance on Day 1 to a good basketball-IQ demonstration on Day 2.
New Zealand 48 - France 114
Nothing left to say. There is a huge difference among the young Tall Blacks and the top level basketball in Europe.
Let's say that just watch them perform the "Haka" was worthy. France contributed to the show facing the New Zealanders during the performance. A great moment for the tournament. At the end, the game became a pure slam dunk contest, and Babacar Niang flew once and another over the basket.
Spain 64 - Russia 76
Great upset for Spain that lost against a perfect team. The arena was full with more than 3000 fans on the stands cheering for "the reds" and Spain took advantage of it and led through the first 20 minutes of the game. Joan Tomas was key in the second quarter to give his team up to 5 points of difference.
But Russia was more willing to win the game and increased the defensive level. With a zone defense Spain started to struggle. The great wingspan of almost every Russian player didn't allow the locals to shoot comfortably from the three point range. The 3pt percentage of Spain was 3 out of 21. Mission: impossible.
Lazarev and Antipov dominated in the paint during the second half, when Russia outrebounded Spain and got the first leads that were kept until the end.
During the final two minutes it was a frustrating situation after another led by Josep Franch, who tried to score quickly several times, but wasn't able to. On the other side, Pastukov got fouled ¡13 times! and scored 14/14 from the free throw line. Russia will play the final game against France if nothing strange happens on Day 3.
